Montessori-based Dementia Programming©
Key members of our staff are trained in the Montessori-based Dementia Programming© (MBDP) through the Myers Research Institute. MBDP uses daily activities to engage the individual and help them to realize the greatest possible level of fulfillment. This method is based on creating an atmosphere of respect, dignity, and caring. It is designed to help residents deal with both cognitive and physical impairments. Activities concentrate on using the individual’s own skills and past experiences to build the skills needed to deal with the new challenges of dementia.
Through planned activities and various aspects of daily living, we apply these principles in the lives of our residents. Maria Montessori claimed that play was the child’s work. For adults with dementia, work has become their play. By encouraging our residents to use the skills they have accumulated in life, they become more engaged with those around them and with their surroundings. The results can be slowing or stopping certain declines and regaining joy in daily life. |
