Support for Families

Support of families is a hallmark of the caring service at Oakwood Terrace.  There is much that we can do, with our training and expertise, to help you and your family with the physical and emotional pressures of dementia.

First, we include families in the decision-making process. By providing you with the information you need, we help you make informed decisions that benefit your loved one.

Next, we involve families in the development of the initial support plan. By working with family members and resident’s personal physician, we learn about the life, history, and current needs of the individual and create a program of care that addresses the resident’s physical and emotional needs. By keeping lines of communication open with family members, we can update and adapt the support program as needed, keeping family “in the loop” about ongoing needs or progress.

Lastingly, we provide continuing support and education to help families beyond the initial decision about how to care for their loved one. Our 3rd Wednesday Support Group meets once per month and offers ongoing education and assistance. Our staff members are always available to answer questions, provide information, and work with families on issues that arise or concerns that may develop.
